She watched in horror as lots of little vines came crawling out of the book. They attacked her then strangled her to death by wrapping themselves around her mouth and neck. She lay still and lifeless in her bed.
"Oh no," said Mr. Linden as he stood in her doorway the next morning. "Not again."
When the first person had come to stay with him it happened the same way. He had not gone to prison because he showed the police the book. They had told him to destroy it but he hadn't. Now there was only one thing he could do.
At the top of the cliff he stood for a second then heaved the body off the cliff. He got in his car and drove far, far away. He wasn't coming back.
